Our week in Cabo

We thought that we had "endured" enough winter (but really it's been pretty good), so we booked a 1 week all-inclusive trip to Cabo January 11-18. We chose Cabo as we have spent time there & knew our way around. We went with Signature vacations, flying with Sunwing - "champagne flight", ha -about 2 oz.champagne with a tiny foil wrapped sandwich, a few TV's that flipped down from the roof & the least legroom we've ever encountered - but we got there all the same!
We stepped off the plane into glorious sunshine & heat, perfect! We had to buy cervesas for the bus ride to the hotel, actually spent $6.50 Can. each but they tasted great.

This was our first stay at a Riu resort, Riu Sante Fe in Cabo San Lucas - very nice, big rooms, excellent food, lots of bars & restaurants & Robin quite liked the in-room liquor dispenser. The beach was a bit of a walk but with all the food and drinks it was actually a good thing.

Our first full day we walked to Villa Serena RV park, about a 45 min. hike - to visit friends from previous winters there. We had a good visit with Barb & Bill and Al & Diane, saw 3 different types of hummingbirds at Al's feeders, sure miss that. The next day we headed to Chileno beach with Bill & Barb for some sun & snorkeling. Not impressed that a huge resort is being built right next to this lovely public beach, but it didn't seem to deter the fish - I saw over 20 varieties of tropical fish snorkeling right off shore. We also had a "friendly" pelican trying to catch the fish we were feeding! Lots of shells & sea glass that we added to our collections. No wonder our luggage is heavier going home!

We walked into Cabo and to the marina for some window shopping, a bucket of beers & people watching and for smoked marlin tacos (the best!!) at Los Claros, followed by a trip on the local bus back. We made a stop at Costco for 1L vodka & 1L rum, all for $20 Can.

The rest of the week was spent lying on beach chairs, soaking up the sun, enjoying the heat & watching whales offshore. The resort food was amazing & included many delicious Mexican dishes. Drinks were plentiful (& available 24/hrs) & good, we were hoping our clothes would fit on the way home! The evening entertainment varied - lots of audience participation, but the Mexican night was very good. We ran into a couple that we knew from our Two Hills days - Ken & Kari Taschuk - we shared a few drinks with them, including rainbow shots, all poured from the same pitcher, something we hadn't seen before.

We did get some exercise - a long walk along the beach & up & over a large rocky outcropping & then back along a trail through scrub & cactus. Got the best views of Los Arcos (the arch) from there.

The week actually seemed long enough - got our "bit of Mexico" for this winter, enough to tide us over until the fall and our next RV trip south. Robin's sunburn has faded and we are home, preparing for our next adventure - a Panama Canal cruise in February, so long till then.
